The 2012 Beijing Auto Show has come and gone, but we can't get our minds off of the new concept luxury brand Volvo premiered at the show. The Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept features innovative hybrid and electric technology, and it's also a cost-efficient, performance-heavy vehicle. With the simple touch of a button, this concept's driver can choose between employing the utilizing the vehicle's electric motor.
Volvo fans in Europe are currently awaiting the arrival of the new Volvo V40, which has yet to go on sale, but they won't be waiting very long for new models afterward. By the time 2015 rolls around, the V40 will be the brand's oldest vehicle. Because Volvo is now under the direction of Chinese company Geely, the brand will be performing a major product overhaul that will include all-new models, the loss of the brand's iconic five-cylinder engines, and a major refresh of every other model.
Airbags certainly aren't a new invention. They've been around for quite some time now- since the 1970s, in fact. (Though they weren't used in mass until the late 1980s and early 90s). However, an external pedestrian-focused airbag is certainly a new idea. That's exactly what will be featured on the new 2013 Volvo V40, which will begin production in May. Volvo is committed to "greening" its lineup, and one major way that happens is through lighter, more efficient engines. The brand tossed all of its V8 engines not too long ago, and it's been indicating that it would soon leave its five- and six-cylinder engines behind as well. According to Australian website CarSales, which interviewed the brand's product and vehicle head, Lex Kerssemakers, about the brand's future powertrain offerings, "the brand will begin replacing six-cylinder engines with 'twincharged' fours within the next two years, likely starting with its largest models."1
Shhh . . . can you keep a secret? Here at Hassel Volvo of Glen Cove, we've discovered some "top secret" photos of the new 2013 Volvo V40 circulating around the internet. This new Volvo won't be officially shown off until this year's Geneva Auto Show, but full photos were discovered by an auto enthusiast website.
